Thanks to Sony for slashing the price of its PlayStation 3. Now Microsoft has to follow suit and they've made it official that they will be dropping the price of their Xbox.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard out on August 28

It’s just two days away Max users and you can get your hands on the latest update for the Mac OS X. Snow Leopard is simply a maintenance upgrade with no bells and whistles attached and will cost you $29.

macosx

So how will Snow Leopard benefit your system? Everything’s under the hood so expect overall performance improvement and smaller footprint that will free up a lot of your precious disk space. It will now also offer support for Microsoft Exchange.

Still, I’m hoping that they’d give it at a much lower price considering that the changes improves the system which what should be the case in the first place.

Get your picks ready for Fantasy Football

Football season is a just a couple of weeks away and if you still haven’t join a fantasy league, here’s your chance to do well during your draft.

Doing your homework before a draft is crucial for a successful fantasy season and WaiverWire is offering what they call their Stimulus Package so you can quickly get players news, rankings, injury reports, cheat sheets and a whole lot more on a single page without paying anything.

Here are my top 3 picks for the upcoming NFL season.

1. Adrian Peterson (RB) – Minnesota Vikings

Obviously, he should be chosen as the first pick for any fantasy leagues. Peterson has supposedly improved "in terms of pass blocking, route running and his comfort level catching passes out of the backfield." That’s only the bonus part of this spectacular player.

2. Matt Forte (RB) – Chicago Bears

If you’re not the number 1 pick, there’s still Matt Forte. Even though he didn’t participate much in training camp, he’s gonna be 100% at the start of the season and should still get plenty of touches, including goal-line carries.

3. Michael Turner (RB) – Atlanta Falcons

Turner had a monster year last season and during the pre-season, he simply picked up where he left off. He rounds up the top three best running backs in the league this season.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up for the free stimulus package from WaiverWire. Happy drafting!

Don't expect HD quality though but it's a nice site if you want to catch up with your favorite show using your PC.

Microsoft Word will be dropped from the market?

I’ve been using Microsoft Word since high school and I couldn’t imagine a world without that familiar word processing software.

MS-Word It might just happen as Microsoft is fighting a court ruling that could force MS Word off the market. It seems that Microsoft involved itself on patent infringement issues for Word’s use of XML against Canadian software company i4i.

Microsoft filed an emergency motion with the court asking the judge for a stay on that ruling while they remove the functionality from Word. The court gave them 60 days to comply but Microsoft said that the change required on the software could take months.

If Microsoft can’t fix this thing by October 10 and the court denied a stay of the ruling, say goodbye to MS Word.

i4i was awarded $200 million in damages earlier this year for the same patent case.

The banana that can recharge your batteries

Here's a funny little device. It's a USB powered banana-shaped charger that can charge your rechargeable batteries.
It charges your rechargeable AA or AAA batteries two at a time via USB instead of the usual power outlet so you have to leave your PC on to use this. The banana lights up while charging and also have an indicator when it's done.

It can charge up to 2500mah NiMH batteries and costs $22 from USB Geek.

Show related posts for Blogger

One of the missing features of Blogger sites is a way to show related contents at the end of a post. That would certainly give your old posts more chances to be read. Wordpress have plugins to do that but Blogger don't.

The best thing for Blogger users is a service called LinkWithin. This service is free to use and doesn't require any sign-up of some sort. Just enter your site, the platform you are using and follow the instruction on how to add the gadget.

By default, it looks nice on white or black background but if you have unusual color schemes, you have to e-mail them for support. It's also free and they are quick to respond anyway.

I highly recommend this gadget to Blogger users.

Coolest GI Joe T-Shirt

If you're a fan of GI Joe then you must know one of their mottos. In the end of each animated episode they usually say "And knowing is half the battle." But have you ever wondered what "the other half" of the battle is?

This T-shirt from Nerduo will illustrate just that.

Haha. Now you know what the other half of every GI Joe battle is all about.

Buffalo's flash drive is also a microSD card reader

Remember the teeny weeny flash drive from EagleTec I posted a while back? Well Buffalo created their own version and upped the ante by having it act as a microSD/SDHC card reader as well.

This Buffalo MicroSD USB card reader is so small that you can leave it in your laptop or netbook to act as a spare mini disk drive. It also has a slot that can read those microSD cards (up to 16GB) often used in mobile devices.

It comes in 16GB ($160) and 4GB ($35) capacity. If you add that 16GB microSD you would have a 32GB flash drive in that tiny shell. I would love to have one of these.

The automatic pancake maker

First there was the pizza vending machine that automatically creates pizza from scratch. Now here's a machine named ChefStack that automatically creates pancakes for you.

No this is not those Play-Doh toy machines. This thing is the real deal.

ChefStack has pre-filled bags of pancake batter and with just a press of a button, you have yourself a pancake. Just pour your favorite syrup and you're good to go. The machine is the size of a microwave oven with rollers inside and can output 200 pancakes an hour. What you will with 200 pancakes? I don't know but I think this can replace those human pancake makers at McDonalds.

What does an Oleophobic Screen do for the iPhone 3GS

The iPhone 3GS boasts of something called an “oleophobic” coating on its screen. What this basically does is that it prevents oil from your skin from sticking on it. In other words, little to no fingerprints on your iPhone 3GS screen.

iphone3gs

How does it work? An oleophobic (which means aversion to oil by the way) polymer compound is bonded with the glass that is used for the screen. The polymer will allow the oil coming from your fingers to bunch together to form something like a droplet that washes off the surface easily.

Nice? The thing is, you would probably use a screen protector on your iPhone which would probably attract fingerprints anyway. Also, why didn’t they use this oleophobic polymer on the back panel of the iPhone?

I hope this technology gets used a lot especially on glossy laptop surfaces.

Abbey Road live via webcam

The crossing in Abbey Road is one of the most popular spots in London. It became one of the most recognizable place when the Beatles walked across the zebra crossing for a shot for the cover of their album of the same name.

Abbey Road

Now you can check out the famous place live from your PC. Just head to AbbeyRoad.co.uk to see a streaming view from a webcam. Although it’s not the same angle as the Beatles photo, you can see tourists having their photos taken on that spot.

The iCoat comes in 2 sets, for him and for her. Each set has 5 shells to protect the back and an invisible film to protect the screen of your iPhone. I guess you can now match your iPhone with the color of your bag or your shirt.

The Ozaki iCoat Wardrobe has an SRP of Php1550.

Retro wooden speaker doubles as MP3 Player

Check out this portable retro wooden speaker that can also play your mp3’s. It can get your mp3 via its SD card slot or its USB drive slot.

retrospeaker

The retro-looking buttons is for the typical pause/play, previous/next controls or you can use the remote control included. It also has a 3.5mm audio in jack where you can plug in your iPod for playback on its 3W stereo speaker. It comes with a built-in lithium-ion battery that can be recharged via the USB port.

The only thing probably missing from this whole retro look is a volume knob in front (it is located inconspicuously at the back) and maybe a handle on top. At only $29, I think this one’s a good buy.

Mafia Wars Daily Chance replaces lottery

The Mafia Wars Lottery system has been replaced or rather renamed into Daily Chance. It works as the same old lottery but with a new option.

With Daily Chance, you can claim your prize even if the week has not yet ended. The prize you will get depends on how many tickets you currently have.

  • 1 ticket = random collection item. meh.
  • 2 tickets = 1 free ticket
  • 3 tickets = 5 stamina refilled
  • 4 tickets = 1 skill point. Some people won 5 skill points with this but most including me only got 1.
  • 5 tickets = 20 energy refilled
  • 6 tickets = 1-5 Godfather reward point

So my recommendation? Get the skill points at 4 or 6 tickets depending on your needs. It’s still buggy right now as some people are not getting the prizes as advertised. Some doesn’t even have the option to claim prizes.

Oh and be careful not to click the buy a ticket for 2 reward points. They placed it where it can be mistakenly clicked. Crafty lil devils.

A double-sided flash drive

Here's a new twist in flash drives. Split Stick is a two-in-one flash drive. That's two 2GB flash drives in one double-sided casing.

Now you may ask yourself, what's the point in having something like two partitions on a 4GB flash drive? Can't I just create two folders in my flash drive?

Well, Split Stick's design is made so that you can separate personal and private or business files on a single double-sided flash drive. Or maybe you can store your files on one side and maybe your wife's files on the other end.

The Split Stick comes in different colors and designs. Sadly, for $19.99 you can already buy an 8GB or even 16GB flash drives.

Apple releases iPhone 3.0.1 software. Update quickly!

Earlier this week, a report from security researcher Charlie Miller mentions that iPhone has a critical vulnerability that would allow hackers to take control of the device simply by sending an SMS message.

According to AppleInsider:

The exploit takes advantage of the fact that SMS can send binary code to a phone. That code is automatically processed without user interaction, and can be compiled from multiple messages, allowing larger programs to be sent to a phone. The exploit supposedly exposes the iPhone completely, giving hackers access to the camera, dialer, messaging and Safari. It occurs regardless of hardware revision or which version of the iPhone OS is running.

iPhone 3.0.1 Software Update

Good thing that Apple just released the fix for it so better upgrade your OS to 3.0.1 pronto. iPod Touch is not affected since it is not capable of receiving SMS.
