Transfer files over the web in real-time

When you have a file you want to send to somebody usually we use e-mails or if it’s a huge file we use those file hosting sites. But if you need to transfer files in real-time where you upload and the other person download at the same time, you can use something like JetBytes.

jetbytes

JetBytes is free and easy-to-use. No need to sign up or download and install anything. Just browse for your file, give the private URL to the other person and watch your file being sent in real time. There’s no file size limit so it is something you can use if you can’t email the file.

Other similar sites is Zapr and Files Over Miles. Why would you want to use something like this? Well because sometimes apps such as Yahoo cannot bypass firewalls and blocked ports if you’re behind one.

Where to find the latest release to download

So you have the blazing-fast internet connection but the problem is you’re only using like a quarter of it for browsing and the occasional YouTube viewing. Why not make good use of your bandwidth by downloading stuff?

scenereleases

Scene Releases is a site where you can find out what the latest releases are on the internet. From movies, apps, TV shows, games and music, they have it all in the site.

I use the site mainly to track movie releases so I would know what movies have poor quality and those that already have DVD quality. What’s good about Scene Releases is that the torrent for the movies are already linked from the site. No need to search for it.

Check it out to see how useful the site is for the download freak that you are. Hehehe.

Watch DVD quality streaming movies online

There are lots of sites out there streaming full movies online and here’s another one.

arb-e

ARB Entertainment allows you to watch full movies online from your browser without the need to download or install anything (‘cept for Flash). They divided their movies between DVD quality and those newer releases but of low quality (TS and CAM). New movies includes Angels & Demons, Terminator Salvation and Star Trek.

Perfect if you’re stuck in an airport with a laptop and free WiFi. :)

Full feeds or summarized feeds?

RSS feeds is a popular way for people to keep track of blogs or sites without having to visit them regularly. It’s like an e-mail inbox where all unread posts of your usually visited sites are delivered.

One of the usual decision that you have to make when setting up RSS feeds for your site is whether to enable the summarize view or not. Here are some things you may want to consider before deciding what type of view to use:

Summarized:

  • Subscribers won’t be spammed if your post is quite long
  • Perfect if your posts usually contain a lot of pictures
  • Guaranteed visits when your reader got curious. Use this if your first few sentences are really catchy.
  • Might turn off other people who won’t bother reading the whole post

Full:

  • People don’t have to visit your site to read the whole post which is nice if your site takes too long to load.
  • It’s easier for people to get hooked to the post
  • When a person visits your site from a full feed, it’s usually a sure way to get comments
  • If your posts have lots of hi-res photos it will be a turn off for those with slow connection

Conclusion:

So what do I suggest? I enjoy reading full feeds than summarized. I’d rather read every post on my reader than to click them one by one to see the whole thing. If I’m going to click on a post it’s because I want to comment on it. Besides, the summarized view doesn’t look good since you’ll see all first hundred of words in one block of text.

What’s your take?

Search for recipes for what you only have with Supercook

Can’t think of what to prepare for dinner later? If you’re having trouble deciding on what you can do with that ground pork sitting in your freezer, you may want to check Supercook.

Supercook is a site that helps you find recipes based on what you only have in the kitchen. Just add your ingredients and it will filter what kind of meals you can make.

supercook

For example, enter ground beef and tomato and you will see a list of recipes with those ingredients and will also help you see what else you would be needing. You can exclude ingredients as well if say for example you don’t feel like cooking it with bread or egg.

I just hope they can provide only quality recipes with photos then it would be really helpful. The recipes are user-submitted so some may be hard to follow and some may be vague. Supercook is a great idea but still has room for improvement.

File Extension DXR?

Do you know what File Extension DXR is for? Has your PC ever encountered the file and are you wondering what type of program is it used for?

The File Extension DXR is being used by different applications with different functions so you can't classify it as a unique type of file. It has at least 6 ways to be opened using Acrobat, Adobe Director, AEC DesignWare, Green Building Advisor, Dependable Strengths and the game Vegas Jackpot Gold. To know more about how DXR files are being used by the applications, you might want to visit this site.

If you can't open the file, it's either you don't need it or most probably a registry failure. Resolving the Windows registry might help you correct most problems you encounter with File Extension DXR.

Rock Band Unplugged for the PSP announced its list of songs

Every PSP fans are waiting for Rock Band Unplugged to hit the portable gaming console. The game allows you to control either the guitar, bass, drums or the mic but hold your horses, it won't be as realistic as the X-box or Wii since all you got anyway are a bunch of buttons. Treat it just like any rhythm game for the handheld.

Rock Band Unplugged

Anyway, the game is set to launch on June 9 in the US but for now Rock Band simply announced the line up of song included for Unplugged. My favorites would be Blink 182's What's My Age Again, The Offspring's Come Out And Play, Pearl Jam's Alive, Smashing Pumpkins' Today and downloadable contents like RHCP's Under the Bridge.

There's a lot more so better check out their site for the whole list and let's just wait for the game to arrive. It's gonna be a good pick-me-up game that every PSP should have.

Filipino in this year’s BGT advances to the next round

His name is Ray Desumala. He’s a 59 year-old Filipino who lives in Birmingham and he brings his talent, playing the spanish guitar, on the show Britain’s Got Talent. He’s really not that great with the guitar (I have some friends who’s better) but what he lacks in talent, he makes up with his boundless energy and charisma.

Ray Desumala

Catch his audition video as he plays Bonnie Tyler’s Holding Out For A Hero and watch him make fun of himself no thanks to Stevie, one of the show’s hosts. It’s pretty hilarious when he really called Amanda Sam; then when Piers corrected him, he calls her Samanda. Hehehe.

He didn’t get the approval from Simon saying that his act is utterly atrocious but Amanda and Piers gave him the nod to try again in the next round much to the crowd’s delight.

“The Queen!!!” Hahaha.

Looking for a new webhost

Three months from now, the web hosting contract for my other site will be expiring. I don’t want to renew it any more even though it’s monthly fee is quite cheap (just $2) because for two reasons.

The bandwidth limit per month is not enough for my blog so I have to pay extra for additional bandwidth. The other reason is that it’s server set up cannot accommodate some plug-ins for my site without crashing the server. Not only that but they don’t have 24 hour support so getting help is quite troublesome if you’re on the other side of the world.

Right now I’m looking at Web Hosting Geeks for suggestions where I should transfer my site. I would be aiming for a host that provides unlimited bandwidth and it wouldn’t hurt if it has won some sort of web hosting awards. I’m eyeing a couple of web hosting provider from the site already which are cheap yet offers what I need and has received positive reviews.

Actually, the site is pretty informative because there you could learn what the different web hosting types are available for your needs. Heard of Cloud Hosting or do you want to learn more about Reseller Hosting? Check out the site for a wealth of information regarding web hosting.

Download the studio version of Kris Allen’s Heartless

krisallen If you’re a fan of American Idol then you probably already know that Kris Allen is going to the finals next week where he competes against Adam Lambert.

Many people, including me, believe that it was his rendition of Kanye West’s Heartless that propelled him to the finals. It’s different but it still sounds good. Here's the studio version of the song:

Kris Allen – Heartless (studio version).mp3

People are talking about it as much as they talked about David Cook’s Always Be My Baby last year. Kris’ version is not as original as we think it is since a lot of people including the group called The Fray already did something similar with Heartless.

For more studio version of AI 8 song, check out my other post.

The Amazon Kindling is a riot

Yup, you heard that right. There exists a thing called Amazon Kindling, not Kindle. There’s this guy who made wooden version of the popular portable digital reader from Amazon.

Amazon Kindling

With the aid of a friend with a laser cutter, they were able to create a very nice replica of the Amazon Kindle. Unfortunately, you can only read a single page of The Count of Monte Cristo on it. On the upside though, it doesn’t need any charging and if it comes to worst, it makes a perfect kindling for cold nights. Nice job!

Send multiple number of gifts in Mafia Wars

UPDATE: Sad to say that this doesn't work anymore. I'll keep you posted if I find something else.

I’ve been playing Mafia Wars in Facebook for quite some time now and I really wish that their gifting feature will improve. I hope there’s an easy sendgiftway to send multiple number of items such as Untraceable Cellphones to a friend. Right now, you have to click a person, click send, click skip and do the process for how many items you wish to send.

Here’s a much easier way to send multiple numbers of a single item to a person without hacking or any of those things:

  • First you need to have the Bookmark Toolbar (View > Toolbars > Bookmark Toolbar) in your browser
  • Go to Bobby Heartrate’s Mafia Tools and drag both Switch Profile and Gift into your bookmark toolbar
  • In your Facebook, search for your friend and click them to visit their profile
  • Click the Switch Profile button in your bookmark toolbar and you will be directed to your friend’s Mafia Wars page
  • Now click the Gift button in your bookmark toolbar.
  • You will be directed to Heartrate’s Gifting page. Choose how many items to send then click the item name.
  • You will redirected to a link, click that and you will see that the items are sent

In the future, you don’t need to click Switch Profile any more because the info will be stored in your PC. Just use the Gift button when you get to your friend’s Facebook profile page.

Got this info from Mafia Wars New Player Tips in Facebook by the way.

Art student made her car invisible

This is an interesting piece of news. Art student, Sara Watson from University of Central Lancashire turned a car donated to her “invisible” with simply an excellent paint job.

illusioncar

It took her three weeks to transform a Skoda Fabia’s appearance which was donated by a local recycling firm. She made an illusion that when the car is parked in a outside her studio, it would look like it’s invisible in a certain angle.

Pretty cool job I would say! Check out the video here.

How to downgrade your Yahoo Messenger

Recently, my Yahoo Messenger prompted me to update itself so I did but sometimes upgrading so fast will give you problems. I wasn’t able to log in anymore with the new version despite tweaking my connection preferences.

oldapps So I thought of downgrading my YM. But where do they keep the old versions? Besides, the components were downloaded from the net instead of being a standalone installer.

Luckily I found this site called Old Apps which hosts old versions of different kinds of applications including Yahoo Messenger. I downloaded the older iteration of YM and after installation, it’s back to normal. Hooray for older versions!

Need help how to pronounce names?

So it’s time for you to talk to your foreign counterpart over the phone but you don’t exactly know how to pronounce his name. There’s nobody around who knows it either so what do you do?

PronounceNames

Pronounce Names is a site that can help you figure out how a certain name is pronounced. It has a big list of first and last names and their pronunciation. I didn’t know that Giuseppe is correctly pronounced as joo-ZEP-pee. I always thought it was Goo-seh-pee. Anyway, if you can’t find a name’s pronunciation there, you can request for help.

GED File Extension

Have you run across a file type called .GED? I haven’t and it got me curious what the file type does. This is another file extension that may look harmless but is sometimes masked as a virus.

The File Extension GED was originally created by the Mormon Church to make computer searches more efficient. It is usually used to store family history and genealogical event data in ASCII text format and can be opened by different genealogy programs. This data is in standard GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunications) format

However, aside from genealogy the File Extension GED is also used in game creation programs. The data stored in the .GED is created with Game Editor and includes game data and settings as well as resources. Game Editor is an application for developing games in Windows and Linux systems.

View the fonts in your PC through your web browser

If you’re a graphics or web designer you probably need to see your text applied with different font faces for you to choose from. It’s hard if you have plenty of fonts installed and can only see it applied one at a time.

With Flipping Typical, you can see your text in different font faces from your machine without installing anything. This gives you a better view of all your fonts and how it looks on your text. Try it out and see for yourself.

Flipping Typical

It has a problem in recognizing all fonts installed on your machine but once you type in the font on the top black bar, it will remember it for future reference.
